Memory Foam Softness & Firmness
The visco elastic memory foam portion of each mattress has an ILD of 11. What does this mean, you ask? This refers to the firmness of the memory foam. An ILD of 8 is the softest visco foam we ve seen on the market. Some thing this soft gives very little support. The firmest ILD we ve seen is in the low twenties. So in the average range of 8 to 20, an ILD of 11 is on the softer side. This makes the memory foam extremely comfortable, yet gives just the right amount of support for the average person.

Why is memory foam a good sleeping surface?
Everyone keeps talking about this, but many people can t answer this question. Before memory foam was around, mattresses were only made of springs and conventional foams, which don t give adequate support to the curves in ones body. The parts of the body that usually receive the least amount of support are in the lower back region, whether you sleep on your side or back. The reason for this is because your lower back arches here. It s very similar to shoes without any arch support. If tennis shoes were made with a flat surface, your feet would ache in no time. This is exactly why it s usually your lower back that aches when you get out of bed in the morning. Your lower back is pulled down by gravity in an unnatural position. It s forced to straighten, when our spines are not meant to be perfectly straight. They re meant to have a slight curve, just like our feet have a slight curve. If that curve is not supported, it will hurt.

We ve all heard that memory foam is temperature sensitive (which is why Tempur-Pedic has Tempur in their name). Memory foam actually softens with heat. So, when the portions of your body that touch the memory foam more (your shoulders and shoulder blades, and your hips), the visco memory foam will soften there more, allowing those regions to sink more into the mattress. The portions of the memory foam that don t have as much pressure form your body don t have as much heat, so they stay slightly firmer. This is how the memory foam supports your lower back, giving you the adequate support that it really needs. In other words, it keeps your spine in the position that it is meant to be in, and not forced to straighten unnaturally.

Tempur-Pedic comparison
We do not sell the Tempur-Pedic brand, nor do we represent Tempur-Pedic in anyway. However, many people ask how our memory foam compares to theirs. It s very simple. Tempur-Pedic makes very nice visco elastic memory foam (they call it Tempur material). Scientist can very easily figure out exactly what chemicals make up their memory foam. These chemicals used in their visco foam are, for the most part, the same chemicals used in our memory foam. The firmness is very similar, and the rebound time of the memory foam is almost identical. The difference is the price tag. Tempur-Pedic spends a fortune on marketing. Those marketing dollars come from the higher price tag. Even though the cost of their product is no different than the cost of our products, they have to sell their memory foam mattresses for so much more to cover the 100 s of millions of dollars spent on advertising. Why pay more for such a similar memory foam product when you don t have to.

Now that we ve established that our memory foam is extremely similar to Tempur-Pedic, what makes our mattresses overall different?
